I wasn’t ready for it. But there it was. On the ground, at my feet, beside its former home, now cracked open.
“NOoooo”
Something inside me protested.
I felt reluctant to let summer go.
But let it go I’ve had to. Our planet keeps spinning. Time keeps moving. Autumn is upon us.
Change involves endings, as well as beginnings.
There is a natural rhythm to the letting go that endings require.
The conker simply falls, making way for what comes next.
As humans, we have the added dimension of choice.
We get to decide what we let go.
We might be ready to let go of a role or a business that no longer feels like ours.
Or we might be done with a belief about what success should look like or a way of being useful that has become exhausting.
It could even be that the falling leaves of the season are urging us to shed a version of ourself that once fitted us perfectly, but now holds us back.
What we leave behind may have mattered enormously. It may have helped make us who we are. No matter. Letting go creates room for what wants to come next. It is a good thing. Imagine what would happen if no conkers ever fell from the tree.
Carry this forward
As you move through October, notice what you may have outgrown, even if it once served you well.
Then ask yourself:
Am I ready to let this go, and what might it make room for?
If something comes to mind, hit reply and tell me. I’d love to hear.
Warmly
Amanda
